Here, where the Romans already produced olive oil in antiquity, one of Portugal's top olive oils is produced today. The Picual, Verdeal, Maçanilha, and Cobrancosa olives grown in the olive groves are processed into varietal, multi-award-winning olive oils. The olives are picked by hand; only the best and undamaged olives are carefully selected and milled on the same day in the modern granite stone oil mill and then cold-pressed. Before the Monterosa olive oil is bottled, the Aceite Virgem Extra matures for two months in stainless steel tanks, resulting in a multi-award-winning olive oil of the highest quality: extra virgin olive oil.

Best Olive Oil from Portugal | Award-winning

Picual

Gold 2020 New York International Olive Oil Competition

Gold 2019 OLIVE JAPAN International Olive Oil Competition

Silver 2020 China International Olive Oil Competition

Silver 18º Concours International « Les Huiles du Monde »

Top 250 2019 Der feinschmecker - Olio Awards

Top 500 2020 Flos Olei - Italy

Selection

Gold 2020 OLIVE JAPAN International Olive Oil Competition

Silver 2020 China International Olive Oil Competition

Silver 2020 New York International Olive Oil Competition

Top 250 Der feinschmecker - Olio Awards 2019

Verdeal

Silver 2020 China International Olive Oil Competition

Gold 2018 New York International Olive Oil Competition

Silver 2016 Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition

Malçanilha

Gold 2020 OLIVE JAPAN International Olive Oil Competition

Silver 2020 China International Olive Oil Competition

Silver 2020 New York International Olive Oil Competition

Monterosa Verdeal – Extra Virgin Olive Oil – 500ml

Monterosa Verdeal olive oil is a single-varietal, extra virgin olive oil made from the Iberian Verdeal variety. Only about 7km from the cooling sea, a fresh breeze always blows here. In 1969, Detlev von Rosen emigrated from Sweden to Portugal to produce tomatoes and iceberg lettuce for the Northern European market. Later, he, and his company still today, was very successful in cultivating high-quality ornamental plants.

Since 2000, olive trees have been growing on 20 hectares. The previous summers were hot and dry, and the orange trees on the plantation needed huge amounts of water. (1 orange tree needs 1000 liters of water per week). So, olive trees were planted without further ado, with the aim of producing a particularly high-quality extra virgin olive oil, an Azeite de Oliva virgem extra. Five different olive varieties grow at Monterosa: Verdeal, Maçanilha, Picual, Cobrançosa, and Frantoio. However, olive trees have been cultivated and cared for in this special place for 2000 years, as a Roman trade route connecting Lisbon with Corduba passed through Moncarpacho. The in-house stone mill, however, is state-of-the-art. Without long transport routes, the hand-picked olives can be processed into the finest olive oil directly on the plantation.

The best way to discover the taste differences of the five varieties is to try all of them. The Verdeal olive oil is the mildest, greenest oil, followed by the Macanilha oil. Picual belongs to the medium-fruity varieties. The indigenous Portuguese variety Cobrançosa is the spiciest, most powerful variety with a good kick in the finish.

excellent olive oil – award-winning

In 2016, two Monterosa varieties won gold medals at the New York Olive Oil Competition: Picual and Verdeal. Maçanilha won the silver medal.
In total, 826 oils from 26 countries were available for selection in New York.

In Tokyo, Maçanilha, Picual, and Verdeal won gold, and Cobrançosa and Frantoio won silver. 600 olive oils from 21 countries participated in Olive Japan.

Participation of the five Monterosa oils was also very successful at the Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition: four won silver; Verdeal, Maçanilha, Picual, and Cobrançosa.

At the Olivo Award 2016 by Feinschmecker magazine, the Cobrançosa and Picual varieties are among the 100 best oils.
