A wine like its terroir. The Mölsheim Riesling is characterized by wild herbs and vibrant acidity. For me, it's the younger sibling of Frauenberg. The grapes grow in organically certified vineyards on a subsoil of limestone, resulting in a wonderfully salty taste profile with pronounced minerality. An exciting Riesling from Erste Lagen, which is approachable early yet has aging potential, it is smoky-cool with notes of flint. Spanier on his wine: \"The vineyards around Mölsheim are significantly cooler than our Hohen-Sülzen sites. Not only are the vineyards quite high, allowing the cooler winds of the Donnersberg massif to pass through unimpeded, but the Zellertal also narrows here, and the winds are forced through the valley like through a nozzle. The result is cooler daytime temperatures and extremely short drying periods after rainfall. The vines of Mölsheim Riesling root in bare limestone, which here is only covered by a thin layer of gravel. Vineyard work is arduous, and every year we have to remove vast quantities of limestone that literally grow out of the vineyard. This stoniness and barrenness are perfectly expressed in the minerality of the Riesling: restrained fruit, few primary aromas, but extremely delicate notes of flint and northern herbs.
