The aromatic, fatty fish is processed in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. Hand-cleaned, it is first smoked with a light beechwood smoke and flavored with a mild seasoning of white pepper and wild garlic, before being preserved in cold-pressed rapeseed oil from the island of Bornholm and stored in golden fish tins. Fangst Sild No. 1 is a truly local product that combines a touch of the coast with a hint of the forest, and one that Fangst founders Martin, Rasmus, and Mikkel are rightly proud of.

Sild No. 1 – Norwegian Sea herring

The founders of Fangst have been familiar with Scandinavian food culture since childhood. Martin, who grew up in a family of biologists, birdwatchers, and fish farmers, wants to contribute to making good food from natural resources, such as the rediscovery of Sild. Rasmus' home is the mussel beds of the Ise and Roskilde fjords; even as a child, he wanted to know more about edible nature, flora, and fauna. Mikkel, an experienced chef and product developer with extensive knowledge of Nordic ingredients and processing methods, is responsible for the recipes of the first Fangst canned fish.

Herring, or Sild in Norwegian, has been of such fundamental importance to Nordic fishing, trade, and food culture since the Middle Ages that it is also known as the silver of the sea. Herring swim in large schools that can consist of millions of fish. Sild can cover long distances and swim at depths of up to 200m. The herring in this FANGST tin is of the "Atlantic" species, caught in the Norwegian Sea (FAO 27.II). This extends along the Norwegian coast from the Skagerrak in the south to the cool, clear waters of the Barents Sea in the north. Here, the Norwegian Sea herring finds ideal living conditions, a perfect combination of climate, water temperature, and purity.

Fangst wants to bring Sild, Latin: Clupea harengus, back to the plates of Danes and the steadily growing fan community of canned fish lovers. Fangst Nordic Canned Seafood brings the abundance of seafood from the Nordic ocean, preserved in cans as a delicious meal or as snacks from the north, to your table.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0905/1124/5646/files/fangst-sild-no-1-geraeucherter-hering.jpg?v=1750982866
