On the nose, the Loimer Grüner Veltliner Käferberg smells of yellow apples, dried bananas, something vegetable, herbaceous, orange zest and a hint of pepper. On the palate, it is rich in substance, with elegant extract sweetness, mineral grip and a long finish. A single-vineyard wine that truly showcases its origin: Käferberg. Food pairing recommendation: anything deep-fried, such as the classic Wiener Schnitzel or fried chicken. A wonderfully matured Grüner Veltliner.

Fred Loimer – Winemaking

The grapes for this Fred Loimer Grüner Veltliner Käferberg Kamptal DAC come from the Käferberg vineyard, not far from Langenlois, where the Loimer winery is located. The up to 55-year-old vines are trained in Guyot style in organically and biodynamically cultivated hillside vineyards at an altitude of 310-345 meters above sea level, with sandy clay soils, marine sediment, and interspersed with gneiss. The Grüner Veltliner was harvested with a yield of 40hl/ha from mid-September to early October 2017 – of course by hand, selectively in small 20kg crates. After 24 hours of skin contact, whole cluster pressing was carried out, followed by spontaneous fermentation in used 1250 and 2,500 liter oak barrels. Slow fermentation at a maximum of 24 degrees. The wine was aged for 11 months on the full lees in oak barrels, and then for another 9 months on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks, before being bottled in July 2019.

Grüner Veltliner Käferberg – a wine and its values

Origin Wine from Austria

Growing region Kamptal DAC

Vineyard - location Käferberg

Grape variety Grüner Veltliner

13.0% vol. It has long been known as a particularly good site and is therefore classified as Erste Lage. It lies at an altitude of 310 to 345 m above sea level in the Pannonian continental climate, which brings hot, dry days and cool winds from the Weinviertel. The site faces south or southeast. The soils are incredibly complex. Here you will find the primary rock Gföhler Gneis and mica schist overlaid with sand and clay marl.

Wine – awarded

93-94 The Wine Advocate,

18 out of 20 Gault Millau,

95 Falstaff

1st place Falstaff DAC Reserve Cup during the "Kamptal Wine Night"

Organic control body AT-BIO-402 – Austrian Agriculture

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0905/1124/5646/files/fred-loimer-gruener-veltliner-kaeferberg-2018.jpg?v=1751009361
