This very dense, extract-rich Saar Riesling from Weingut Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken, made from dried but botrytis-free, hand-selected berries, convinces with exotic fruit aromas such as mango and pineapple, notes of dried fruit such as figs and grapes, accompanied by rose and chamomile. It is a Riesling Auslese that, despite 82g residual sugar, possesses a lively acidity structure and leaves an almost refreshing impression on the palate. Fortunately, the vines quickly recovered with varied weather. The start of the harvest was delayed by the Zilliken family, so that healthy, ripe grapes could be harvested at the beginning of October. In mid-October, shriveled berries could also be picked. Thus, the 2017 vintage was a successful one, with an exceptionally present vintage with high extracts, especially in the noble sweet range, as with the Rausch Riesling Auslese.
