Brolettino Lugana DOC – White Wine from Cà dei Frati

The Brolettino Lugana DOC 2022 from Cà dei Frati is an incredibly powerful, opulent, and creamy white wine from Lake Garda. In the glass, it shines in a rich golden yellow. On the nose, this elegant and hearty Lugana displays balsamic notes, a delicate scent of tea roses and dried herbs, as well as finely integrated oak notes from the barrique. On the palate, juicy apricot, ripe pear, and yellow apple meet rose petals and finely integrated barrique notes, culminating in a delicate, long-lasting finish. The Brolettino is the big brother of Il Frati Lugana; it shows more concentration and aromatic density, as well as great aging potential.

As a food companion, Il Frati Lugana pairs well with heartier dishes with roasted aromas, such as pan-seared beef steak, grilled vegetables, grilled king prawns, or smoked eel. It can also complement aged cheese.

Brolettino Lugana – the Cult Wine from Lake Garda

In Sirmione, on the southern shore of Lake Garda, the Brolettino is produced. This DOC Lugana from Azienda Agricola Cá dei Frati demonstrates how well Lugana can age. It grows in vineyards near the lake with distinctive clay soils, rich in limestone and clay, providing optimal conditions for the autochthonous Turbiana grape, a Trebbiano varietal whose special quality has helped the region achieve DOC status. The grapes for Il Frati ripen in the same plots, but for Brolettino, they are harvested from the best parcels, especially late, usually only in mid-October, when they are fully ripe and particularly aromatic. At the winery, they are then carefully selected again before being gently pressed and slowly fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The young wine then ages for 10 months in small oak barrels, the so-called barriques, where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation, before being bottled and released to the market after a further 3 months of bottle aging. This white wine is characterized by an enormous richness of aromas, density, and creamy structure.

In its youth, the Brolettino Lugana presents itself as opulent and oak-influenced. With maturity, this extract-rich exceptional Lugana develops complexity and elegance.
