Weinhof Leo Uibel – Wild wines from the Weinviertel
The Weinhof Leo Uibel is located in Ziersdorf in the Austrian Weinviertel, a good hour from Vienna. It's small, but pretty and surprisingly tidy. As a winemaker's son with viticultural training, his path was actually predetermined, but Leo first wanted to get away. He travelled the world and then went to Vienna; the distance was necessary for cutting the umbilical cord and the best prerequisite for coming back home.
Now, at Weinhof Leo Uibel, he organically cultivates 7.5 hectares of vineyards. 7.5 hectares where he personally knows and individually tends to every vine. Leopold knows the microclimatic characteristics and the geological diversity. The permanently greened soils and the underlying rock are astonishingly inconsistent. This is why winemaker Leo Uibel produces 5 different Grüner Veltliner wines. In addition to "the" classic Austrian white wine grape, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir also grow on the vineyards within a one-kilometer radius of his winery. Leo Uibel is a member of the winemaking group: junge wilde Winzer (young wild winemakers).
Weinhof Leo Uibel – Experimental spirit with a concept
Leo Uibel's signature style can be described as follows: What is meant to be good takes time. A lot of natural work in the vineyard, healthy hand-picked grapes, short & longer maceration times, predominantly spontaneous fermentation, long yeast contact preferably in wooden barrels correspond to the winemaker's concept. His experimental spirit and approach open up new taste experiences for us wine lovers. His wines are pure yet always complex, straightforward but never boring, surprising, and always a little wilder, just like Uibel. Or as the master says: wine for advanced connoisseurs.
