Castillo de Canena – Olive Oil from Andalusia
Castillo de Canena is the finest olive oil from Andalusia in southern Spain. Since 1780, the family of Rosa and Paco Vañó has proudly cultivated olives and produced olive oil. Their brand, and it's fair to say that their olive oil is a brand that is valued worldwide for its high quality, is named after the family's castle, which rises in the mountains of Jaén province. Built by the Arabs on the remains of a Roman settlement, it was converted into a castle palace in 1538 and declared a cultural monument in 1931. Since then, it has been restored and maintained by the Vañó family.
Jaén – Cultural Landscape of Olive Trees
Jaén is a region that has been shaped by olive cultivation for millennia and continues to be so today. A cultural landscape whose olive trees are recognizable as small dots forming a symmetrical pattern even from an airplane. Rosa and Paco's olive groves are nestled between the mountain ranges of Cazorla and Mágina in the fertile river valley of the Alto Guadalquivir. The tradition-conscious family business controls the entire process of olive oil production: from the elaborate and careful care of the trees, the health of the olives, harvesting by hand at the optimal ripening time, to processing the freshly picked olives into this magnificent, unparalleled olive oil. The Picual, Arbequina, and Royal varieties are cultivated for the extra virgin olive oil. Only olives from their own cultivation are processed in the oil mill. The quality standard is high, but the excellent oils with different characteristics prove them right.
