Gunderloch Winery – Quality from Rheinhessen
The Gunderloch Winery, which stands for quality from Rheinhessen, was founded in 1890 by the banker Carl Gunderloch. It was a courageous step that testified to a pioneering spirit. As a founding member of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP.), the far-sighted banker also advocated for quality-oriented viticulture throughout Rheinhessen. Today, the Gunderloch Winery, still family-owned, is managed in the sixth generation by Johannes Hasselbach, who took over the winery from his parents Agnes and Fritz Hasselbach. He continues the philosophy of his ancestors, which has lasted for over 130 years: traditional yet always open to new ideas. Since mid-2020, Johannes Hasselbach has been chairman of the regional association of the VDP. Rheinhessen.
Gunderloch Winery – Riesling from the Roter Hang
The Gunderloch Winery clearly stands for mineral-rich Riesling. Riesling from the Roter Hang, a legendary and highly esteemed chain of steep slopes that winds along the Rhine from Nackenheim to Nierstein. There, the Rieslings grow on 290-million-year-old, red clay slate, which brings a very special, captivating, and always recognizable minerality to the wine. A good 85% of the approximately 24 hectares of vineyards at Gunderloch Winery are planted with Riesling; 12 hectares, or half of these vineyards, are steep and very steep sites. In addition to Riesling, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Silvaner, Chardonnay, Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), and Sauvignon Blanc are also cultivated.
