The grass is greener when Spain's blossoms bloom
Green stands for growth, nature, and fresh life – the color of olives, meadows, and the first herbs of spring. In our Green color world, you will find Spanish olive oil, green sardines with pepper, apple balsamic vinegar, mountain mint soap, gooseberries, verjuice, and chocolate from green cocoa valleys.
Green is the color of nature – the green of the olive before harvest, the apple on the tree, the herbs in a kitchen garden. In color psychology, it represents growth, balance, and freshness. When you open our Green category, take a deep breath: Arbequina from Andalusia, mountain mint from Tyrol, verjuice from the Kamptal, green gooseberry from South Tyrol.
Green, the color of new beginnings
Green is the color that marks the start of spring. The first buds in March, the young foliage in April, the herb pots on the balcony. No other color is as soothing to the eye; it is no wonder that hospitals and schools like to paint their walls green.
In color psychology, it stands for hope and harmony – the middle ground between warm yellow and cool blue. The Irish have made green their national symbol, and world environmental organizations use it in their logos.
For us, green is the color of a kitchen that lives from the garden. A bunch of parsley, a splash of olive oil, a handful of mountain herbs – and a plate suddenly tastes of the season.
Over twenty green specialties from six countries
Our green world gathers delicacies from Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Austria, and Germany – all with a green accent.
From Spain, the OMED Arbequina olive oil from Andalusia – buttery and soft, an olive oil for both beginners and connoisseurs. From Italy, the Greenomic apple balsamic vinegar, the Alpe Pragas fig and green tomato chutney, and the Alpe Pragas green gooseberry fruit spread.
From France, the la belle-iloise sardines in oil with green pepper, the boneless sardines in oil, and the Beauharnais rabbit pâté with rosemary. From Portugal, the Briosa tuna fillets in olive oil and the Porthos sardines in seasoned oil. From Austria, the Fred Loimer Verjus green juice from the Kamptal and three Tiroler Reine products: birch liquid soap, mountain mint liquid soap, and mountain mint soap.
Which green for which moment?
Green ranges from light lime to deep fir-forest green – every shade has its own moment.
For breakfast, the light green: green gooseberry fruit spread on white bread, a dab of fig and green tomato chutney with cheese. For lunch, the bold green: sardines with green pepper on toast, a salad with apple balsamic vinegar.
For the evening, the deep green: a glass of Verjus green juice with tonic and mint – juicy, tart, and easy-drinking. Pair with rabbit pâté with rosemary on baguette and a few green olives on the side.
Manufacturers with a green thumb
Behind every green label is a producer with a close connection to nature – nine manufacturers define our green world.
OMED in Baena, Andalusia, presses its Arbequina olive oil from its own groves – the Ruiz family uses organic methods and harvests the olives while they are still green, before they are fully ripe. This makes the oil lighter and fruitier. The Alpinara family in Prags presses their fruit spreads from fruit grown at an altitude of 1,450 meters – the green gooseberries come from the Prags Valley, where the air is thin and the flavor is concentrated.
Fred Loimer in Langenlois, Lower Austria, has been pressing organic wine for 25 years – his Verjus green juice is the sour juice of unripe grapes, obtained during the green harvest in the vineyard in July. "What used to be thrown away is now kitchen gold," he says. And in Klingenberg in Lower Franconia, Ingo Holland has been blending spices at his Altes Gewürzamt for 25 years – his "Best Festive Roast" blend brings Sunday to the plate with green parsley, sage, and thyme.
Finally, Ulrike Oberhammer in Tyrol, who produces small batches by hand, such as mountain mint soap and birch liquid soap made with goat's milk. The scent lingers. Highly recommended.
Green for salad, pasta, and Sunday roasts
Green delicacies love fresh partners on the plate. A green salad with apple balsamic vinegar and a splash of OMED Arbequina, topped with a few shavings of Parmesan – simple and beautiful.
For pasta, green loves direct counterparts: a bowl of spaghetti with sardines in green pepper and a spoonful of Lang wine vinegar sauce with fig. For a Sunday roast, add a touch of "Best Festive Roast" and a splash of verjuice to the sauce – it makes the roast light and clear.
Green gifts for those who love the garden
A green crate is a gift for people who have a herb pot on their windowsill. For the neighbor with a vegetable garden, for the colleague who loves to cook.
We are happy to put together a selection for you: OMED Arbequina olive oil, apple balsamic vinegar, green gooseberry spread, Verjus green juice, and a Tiroler Reine mountain mint soap for the washbasin. A Cape Herb Greek Lemon & Herb spice blend completes the crate – bringing the Mediterranean garden to the kitchen table.
Browse through our other color worlds – green is the gateway to the garden, and nine other colors grow right beside it.
