Olio Roi – Taggiasca Olive Oil
Olio Roi produces Taggiasca olive oil, virgin olive oil from the Taggiasca olive, of the highest quality in Liguria. In the Valle Argentina, in the heart of Liguria, about an hour's drive inland from Sanremo on the Ligurian Riviera, lies the Olio Roi oil mill. Of the many oil mills that used to be here, due to the excellent quality and mildness of the Ligurian Taggiasca olive variety, only a handful remain: Olio Roi is one of them.
Olio Roi – Olive Oil, a Family Affair
The history of the Roi family begins in 1900 when Giuseppe Roi built the region's first oil mill from wood and stone. More than 100 years later, the Roi family owns 42 hectares of land planted with 11,000 Taggiasca olive trees, growing between 60 and 500m above sea level, surrounded by forests of old chestnut trees and aromatic wild herbs, and with a fresh breeze from the nearby sea.
Olive oil is a family affair here, as the Roi family still invests all their time and passion in producing the best olive oil from Taggiasca olives with low acidity, light fruitiness, and a sweet finish.
Franco Roi has been running the Olio Roi company for over 30 years with his wife Rosella, and he is convinced: only those who know, care for, and harvest their olive trees can make the best olive oil from them. Because in addition to the optimal climatic conditions that exist in Liguria, it depends on the correct pruning and care of the trees, the perfect harvest time, a gentle harvesting method, and timely, gentle pressing, as well as letting the oil rest before it goes on sale.
This is how one of the best olive oils in the world is created - light green with golden reflections, wonderfully mild and sweet, with the scent of ripe almonds and a fine butteriness. In our assortment since 2002.
