Cantine Due Palme – Top Wines from Apulia
With its top wines from Apulia, Cantine Due Palme brings the sun of Southern Italy right into your wine glass! Located in Cellino San Marco, the Cantine Due Palme winery was founded – or perhaps more fittingly, brought to life – by Angelo Maci as recently as 1989. Back then, many independent small-scale farmers in Apulia focused on quantity when it came to wine, selling it cheaply as bulk wine, as hardly any winegrower was able to market their own product. Angelo Maci was one such grower and recognized the potential that a merger would bring.
Stronger together – Cantine Due Palme
He convinced 15 colleagues to form a cooperative together, gradually increase quality, and eventually produce wines so good that they found sufficient demand under the Cantine Due Palme brand. Today, nearly 1,000 small-scale farmers with 2,500 hectares of vineyards belong to the winery. Angelo Maci has successfully realized his vision of producing the best wines within the framework of a winery. The Selvarossa Riserva has been awarded three glasses by the Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso several times in a row. What a success!
The winery's charismatic president remains a restless pioneer in terms of quality and technology. For several years now, in addition to Primitivo and Negroamaro, nearly extinct indigenous grape varieties such as Susumaniello have been cultivated, and old vine training methods like the traditional Alberello Pugliese—where vines grow in individual bushes without support posts or wire frames—have been revived to continue producing high-quality, authentic wines from Apulia. Why not try the Cantine Due Palme Serre—the one with the donkey on the label—made from the Susumaniello grape variety?
