Hand in Hand Spätburgunder – Näkel & Klumpp
The Hand in Hand Spätburgunder 2022 from Näkel & Klumpp is a testament to a true love story. For their wedding, the two red wine makers, Meike from the Ahr and Markus from Baden, jointly vinified a Spätburgunder, and due to its great success, they have been repeating this for several years now.
The red Hand in Hand is a wonderfully balanced Spätburgunder with substance, depth, and captivating elegance. The clear, spicy fruit, reminiscent of sour cherry, blackcurrant, and plum, is optimally complemented by subtle toasted aromas with delicate cocoa notes and a beautiful spice note (juniper, clove, liquorice). On the palate, a lively acidity and fine tannin structure provide great drinking pleasure. Harmonizes very well with game and beef dishes.
The 27-year-old vines for Meike and Markus' Hand in Hand Spätburgunder grow on Baden loamy and loess soils with a high lime content, where red wines with minerality and depth are created.
Winemaking – Klumpp
To harvest ripe grapes in autumn, optimal sun exposure is required, so Meike and Markus ensure early defoliation of the grape zone. Later in the year, yield reduction is carried out through cluster splitting. After selective hand harvesting of the grapes and traditional mash fermentation of about 14 days in small vats, followed a maturation period of 10 months in used barriques.
