Riesling 2023 – Organic Estate Wine from Klumpp
The Klumpp Riesling 2023 is an organic estate wine from Weingut Klumpp. This dry white wine is characterized by candied citrus, yellow plums, and apricots, paired with exotic notes of tropical fruits.
The approximately 30-year-old vines for this organic wine grow in the Kraichgau, where about 65 million years ago a deep basin formed as the Odenwald and Black Forest mountains rose and the Upper Rhine Plain developed between the Vosges and the Palatinate Forest. Due to these shifts, the region is now rich in various soil formations. The up to 30-meter-thick loess-loam layer and the resulting soils, as well as the mild climate, offer optimal conditions for viticulture, especially for organic viticulture.
The Riesling grapes for this estate wine from Weingut Klumpp grow on two different soils: on calcium-rich, light loess soils, which give the wine an expressive aroma of yellow-fleshed fruits, and on loamy loess soils with shell limestone, which give the wine structure and a beautiful minerality. This results in a delicate wine with a mineral acid structure, captivating fine fruitiness, and creamy mellowness.
Klumpp – Winemaking
The selective hand harvest of the grapes takes place in the early, cool morning hours. In the winery, grapes and mash are not pumped but moved into the fermentation tanks by gravity, where they slowly ferment cool for over three weeks and then spend three months on the lees. This makes the wine so wonderfully light.
