Klumpp Winery – Pinot Gris – Organic Estate Wine from Baden
The Klumpp Pinot Gris 2023, an organic estate wine from Klumpp Winery in Bruchsal, Baden, is characterized by ripe, yellow pear, apricot, quince jelly, and sweet melon, complemented by pleasant spicy notes from wood aging.
The 30-35-year-old vines for this Pinot Gris estate wine from Klumpp Winery grow on two different soils: partly on a high plateau with gypsum keuper soils with high clay content, and partly on very heavy clay marl soils. This results in long-lasting wines with high density and complexity.
Winemaking – Klumpp
To harvest ripe grapes in autumn, optimal sun exposure is required, so Markus and Andreas Klumpp ensure early bilateral defoliation of the grape zone. Later, yield reduction is achieved by dividing the grapes. Selective manual harvesting of the grapes takes place in three passes. At the winery, grapes and mash are not pumped, but rather gravity-fed into the fermentation tanks. 75% of this white wine ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. 25% ferments in 500l tonneaux with five months of lees aging, during which bâtonnage, the stirring of the lees, is practiced for three months. This brings richness and creaminess to the Pinot Gris.
