The Cantina Tramin Rungg 2021 is a dry, powerful red wine cuvée from South Tyrol. It skillfully combines the advantages of its grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The red wine has aromas of red and black berries, spicy wood and black pepper. The Cantina Tramin Rungg is full-bodied and dense, revealing aromas of wild cherry, blackcurrant and dried fruit on the palate, with notes of dark chocolate meeting cedar wood and leathery tobacco pouch. With its soft tannin structure and noticeable wood, it finishes with a long-lasting aftertaste. This spicy-fruity red wine cuvée accompanies hearty Tyrolean dishes, excellent with game and roasts, dark grilled meat with roasted aromas, and also stands up to aged mountain cheeses.

Cantina Tramin – Winemaking

The long winter of 2021 pushed back the awakening of spring and the budding of the vines to the beginning of April. Then it got cool again, delaying full bloom. A warm June and a wet July were followed by picture-perfect weather in August: dry, warm during the day and already quite cool at night. Overall, it was a sunny autumn, and although there were a few rainy days, warm days predominated. The 2021 harvest began about 10 days later than the usual annual average. The harvest volume was quite small, but the profound white wines show an impressive freshness and fine fruit aromas, while the red wines shine with concentration, a ripe tannin structure, and juicy fruit notes.

The vines for this Cantina Tramin cuvée grow on calcareous and gravelly clay soils in the best locations at an altitude of about 300 m above sea level. The grapes were harvested at the time of their optimal physiological ripeness and brought to the winery in small containers, where they were destemmed before the mash was fermented in steel tanks at a controlled temperature (26°C) with pumping over in large and small wooden barrels. The minimum 6-month aging takes place partly in wooden barrels and partly in barriques.
