Introducing Cantina Tramin Pepi Sauvignon

The Pepi Sauvignon Blanc 2023 from Cantina Tramin is an aromatic, powerful white wine from South Tyrol. The name Pepi is derived from the classic Sauvignon growing areas of Penon and Pinzon, which are districts of the municipalities of Kurtatsch and Montan.

The Cantina Tramin Pepi Sauvignon Blanc presents itself in a straw-yellow color with greenish shimmer and entices with a floral scent and its typical bouquet reminiscent of nettle and elderflower. On the palate, light yellow fruit aromas of exotic fruits and native plants such as peach and gooseberry captivate. The Sauvignon combines opulence and freshness, is lively and has a hearty acidity. This South Tyrolean wine is a wonderful aperitif, and an excellent accompaniment to asparagus, fish, lobster, seafood, and lightly seasoned white meat dishes.

Cantina Tramin – Winemaking

A mild, low-precipitation winter with plenty of sunshine was followed in the 2023 vintage by a dry March with a comparatively early bud break. Although spring was rather cool and rainy, June saw a mix of hot sunny days and precipitation. A hot summer and a rainy start to September demanded a lot of work from the winemakers. Fortunately, the weather gods blessed South Tyrol with a golden autumn with ideal conditions for the grape harvest. Thanks to targeted work in the vineyard, as well as the experience and diligence of the cooperative members of the Tramin winery, the numerous challenges of the 2023 vintage were mastered with flying colors. The white wines of the 2023 vintage, such as the Pepi Sauvignon, are cool and delicate, captivating with juicy freshness and crispness.

The Sauvignon Blanc vines for this Cantina Tramin wine grow on calcareous, gravelly loam soils on the opposite sides of the valley, east and west of the Adige, on hillsides at an altitude of 450 m above sea level. The vineyards with western and eastern exposure respectively enjoy very different peak times of sunshine throughout the day. The grapes were harvested by hand in several passes at the time of optimal physiological ripeness and brought in small containers to the winery building. There they were destemmed and further processed with gentle, long pressing. Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature (19°C) in stainless steel tanks. This is followed by aging in large oak barrels for at least 6 months on the lees, without malolactic fermentation.
