Kohl Gourmet Mountain Apple Juices are single-varietal, naturally cloudy, direct-pressed juices made from one single type of apple. Grown on the Ritten plateau in South Tyrol at an altitude of just over 900 to nearly 1,000 meters, they are hand-picked and pressed the very next morning. Each variety is bottled individually—and tastes completely different from its neighbor.
Single-varietal, because every variety has something to say
"The taste and quality of an apple juice are created while the fruit is still hanging on the tree," emphasizes Thomas Kohl. That is precisely why he picks each variety individually in several passes, presses them separately, and keeps them naturally cloudy. What is usually blended together in retail remains separate here: six varieties, six characters, six bottles.
Let yourself be surprised by how different apple juice can taste. The Rouge is cherry-red right to the flesh and acid-forward, the Gravensteiner is lively and dry, and the Rubinette is elegant with notes of date and vanilla in its bouquet. The Pinova won the national title as Italy's best fruit juice in 2019, the Sonnenglanz is the latest addition to the group, and the Jonagold is a crowd-pleaser.
Serve these gourmet juices well-chilled at 8 to 10 degrees Celsius in a stemmed glass so that their aromas can unfold just like those of a wine. For those who prefer more fruitiness, the Kohl Cuvées offer juices infused with fruits, blossoms, and herbs; for those looking for something festive, the Kohl Grand Cru collection features antique varieties in magnum bottles.
