Ingelheimer Frühburgunder from J. Neus Winery
The Ingelheimer Frühburgunder 2019 from Weingut J. Neus is a dry VDP.Ortswein (classified as a village wine), from the Ingelheim district in Rheinhessen. Frühburgunder, like Spätburgunder, belongs to the Burgundy family and is one of the oldest cultivated grapevines, which can be harvested approximately two weeks earlier than Pinot Noir.
The Frühburgunder from Weingut J. Neus impresses with its elegant dark spiciness and fruity aromas of midnight-black blackberries, tart cassis, and roasted coffee notes. On the palate, fine cherry and raspberry notes complete the red-fruited impression. A finely structured and juicy wine, with appealing spice and present tannins.
Weingut J. Neus – Winemaking
The Burgundy grapes for this Frühburgunder grow on loamy soils with shell limestone subsoil. The vineyards are cultivated close to nature and are in conversion to organic viticulture. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand at optimal ripeness and selected again at the winery to obtain the best, healthy grape material as the starting point for this red wine, with operations manager Lewis Schmitt and winemaker Toni Frank working hand in hand. Traditional mash fermentation takes place spontaneously in wooden fermentation vessels. The wine is aged for at least 12 months in 600-liter half-barrels made of German oak. All red wines from J. Neus are drawn unfiltered from the barrel. The cellar master brings all his skill and enthusiasm for distinctive, regionally characterized wines to renew the tradition of great Spätburgunder at Weingut J. Neus.
