Winery J.Neus – Ingelheimer Spätburgunder Alte Reben
The Ingelheimer Spätburgunder Alte Reben 2020 from Winery J.Neus is a dry VDP. Wein from Erste Lagen (first growth sites) from the Ingelheim district in Rheinhessen. An impressive red wine from vines that are up to 60 years old and deeply rooted. Due to their loose and small-berried grape structure, the Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grapes from old vines lend the wine a profound aromatic complexity and minerality.
Forest fruit aromas and fine roasted notes from the long aging in large wooden barrels characterize the wine. This Spätburgunder is distinguished by a silky elegance and straightforwardness. A profound, concentrated wine with powerful spice and present tannins. A red wine with great minerality and an exciting structure, in which the red fruitiness of the Pinot fruit recedes into the background and the minerality of the limestone and loess soils is showcased. An elegant, complex Spätburgunder that benefits from a few years of bottle aging.
Ingelheimer Spätburgunder Alte Reben – J. Neus Winemaking
The Burgundy grapes for this Spätburgunder Alte Reben grow on loamy soils with shell limestone subsoil. The vineyards are cultivated close to nature and are in conversion to organic viticulture. The winery gives this wine priority and endurance by limiting the yield to a maximum of 65 hl/ha and providing extensive care to the vineyards during the growing season. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand at optimal ripeness and then selected again at the winery to ensure the best, healthy grapes as raw material for this red wine, with Betriebsleiter Simon Kissmann and winemaker Toni Frank working hand in hand. Traditional mash fermentation takes place spontaneously in wooden fermentation vessels. The wine is aged for at least 22 months in half-piece and barrique barrels. All red wines from Winery J. Neus are drawn unfiltered from the barrel. The cellar master brings all his skill and enthusiasm for independent, regionally characterized wines to renew the tradition of great Spätburgunder at the winery.
