Pflüger Riesling Buntsandstein – Organic Wine from the Palatinate
The Pflüger Riesling Buntsandstein 2023 is an organic wine from the Palatinate, from the Pflüger wine merchant in Bad Dürkheim. The organic wine is characterized by its warm soils and the scent of yellow apples, citrus fruit, ripe vineyard peaches, and hints of flint. This wonderfully fresh, very juicy Riesling has an excellent drinkability with vibrant fruitiness, medium body, good acidity, and moderate alcohol content.
The Pflüger Riesling Buntsandstein is balanced and features a good acid structure, wonderfully buffered by some residual sugar. It pairs well with a variety of dishes and leaves a lasting impression. Its animating character makes it a perfect food companion for hearty Palatinate cuisine, such as Saumagen with fried potatoes or Flammkuchen.
Pflüger – Organic Wine Production
The vines for this Riesling grow in organically cultivated vineyards in the Palatinate Mittelhaardt, in the municipalities of Bad Dürkheim, Wachenheim, and Friedelsheim. Some are from the Pflüger winery's own vineyards, and some are purchased from friendly winemakers. Common to all of them is the Bunter sandstone soil, typical of the Palatinate, which conducts heat well and produces ripe grapes and a spicy minerality. To harvest ripe grapes in autumn, winemaker Alexander Pflüger has been working according to biodynamic principles since 2008, refraining from artificial fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides. He aligns with the cycle of the seasons and the moon, working as close to nature as possible. The Pflüger winery is Demeter certified.
The harvesting of the purchased Riesling grapes often takes place in several picking rounds. In the winery's pressing house, located opposite the saltworks in Bad Dürkheim, the grapes are gently processed. The mash is pressed with gentle pressure, and the must is spontaneously fermented. The reductive aging in stainless steel tanks results in a typical, aromatic Riesling.
