Palatinate organic Riesling from warm variegated sandstone
The 2025 Riesling Buntsandstein from the Pflüger winery is a fruit-forward organic Riesling from Bad Dürkheim. Juicy, fresh, with vibrant fruit and spicy minerality. A young vintage that celebrates the warm fruit of the variegated sandstone.
Riesling Buntsandstein 2025 from the Pflüger winery matures on the warm variegated sandstone of the Palatinate, which stores the sun and yields ripe grapes. A juicy organic Riesling with 12.5% vol. alcohol, lively acidity of 6.4 g/l, and a fine fruit sweetness that makes it round and refreshing.
Yellow apple, peach, a hint of flint
On the nose, the Riesling Buntsandstein radiates yellow apples, citrus fruit, and ripe vineyard peach, accompanied by a subtle hint of flint. An inviting, juicy aroma.
On the palate, it is wonderfully fresh and very juicy, with vibrant fruitiness and lively acidity. The slightly bolder fruit sweetness of this vintage softly cushions the acidity, giving the Riesling a round, almost seductive flow. Juicy, fruity, refreshing.
Fresh with Asian cuisine and as an aperitif
The Riesling Buntsandstein pairs well with a wide variety of dishes and leaves a lasting impression. Its fruity, lively character makes it a cheerful companion throughout the entire evening.
As an aperitif, with Thai coconut curry, fried prawns, or quiche with spring vegetables, it is best served well-chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. Its fine sweetness softly balances any spice, making it a reliable partner for flavorful cuisine. It also cuts a fine figure with a ripe soft cheese or a fruit tart in the afternoon, as its fruit profile is always perfectly balanced.

Warm soils of the Palatinate Mittelhaardt
The vines for this Riesling grow in organically farmed vineyards in the Palatinate Mittelhaardt, in the municipalities of Bad Dürkheim, Wachenheim, and Friedelsheim. Part of the harvest comes from the winery’s own vineyards, and part from fellow organic vintners.
What they all share is the variegated sandstone typical of the Palatinate in the subsoil, which conducts heat efficiently and produces ripe grapes with spicy minerality. Since the 2008 vintage, Alexander Pflüger has been working biodynamically, eschewing artificial fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides, and aligning his work with the cycles of the seasons and the moon—a practice Alexander maintains year after year. The winery is Demeter-certified.
In the winery opposite the saltworks in Bad Dürkheim, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is spontaneously fermented. Reductive aging in steel tanks creates a typical, aromatic Riesling. The gentler this process, the fresher and fruitier the young vintage appears in the glass.
The vintage highlights the peach before the apple
Serve it well-chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a glass that isn't too small, and the peach and apple notes will unfold beautifully. After opening, it stays fresh for two to three days when kept chilled.
