Weingut Knipser – Kapellchen Riesling from the Pfalz
The Knipser Kapellchen Riesling 2024 from Pfalz is an elegant, racy white wine and the entry into the world of Knipser Rieslings. It is characterized by aromas of green apples and juicy peach fruit, paired with luscious notes of ripe peaches and exotic fruit, in addition to white blossoms and herbal scents. A prime example of a successful Riesling: dry, lean, mineral, finely spicy with vibrant acidity, a hint of residual sugar and delicate fruit.
Winemaking – Knipser Riesling
The vines for this wine grow in the Erste Lage Laumersheimer Kapellenberg, whose shape resembles a long dune. Its name harks back to a small chapel. The Catholic chapel "Zum heiligen Kreuz," also known as the Palm Chapel, commemorates the vanished village of Berghaselbach, which once stood on this site and was abandoned around 1733, thus disappearing from the map.
The soils here consist mainly of sand and gravelly rock, deposited by the Rhine over millennia. On this quickly warming soil, early accessible, drinkable wines with pronounced primary fruit are produced. The selective hand-picking of the Riesling grapes in autumn usually takes place in several passes to harvest optimally ripe grapes. At the winery, all grapes are destemmed, meaning freed from their stalks. The resulting mash is gently pressed in a tank press. Fermentation takes place, temperature-controlled at below 20°C in stainless steel tanks, which preserves the fruitiness, but also the varietal typicality. Maturation on the fine lees also takes place in steel tanks, resulting in a fine, elegant, fresh wine.
