Chardonnay & Weißburgunder – Estate Wine from Weingut Knipser
The Knipser Chardonnay & Weißburgunder 2025 from Weingut Knipser in Laumersheim in the Pfalz is a fine, dry VDP Gutswein (estate wine) and one of Knipser's most popular wines. This white wine cuvée is characterized by aromas of yellow pome fruit, paired with exotic notes of tropical fruits like pineapple and lychee, along with almond tones, delicate white blossoms, and the scent of meadow hay. The Knipser Chardonnay & Weißburgunder 2025 is a filigree wine with a mineral acid structure, engaging fine fruitiness, and creamy richness.
The cuvée of Chardonnay and Weißburgunder, aged in stainless steel, deliberately showcases the fruit of the Burgundy varieties, with Chardonnay contributing spice and Weißburgunder providing strength and richness, thus creating a harmonious whole.
Winemaking – Weingut Knipser
The selective hand harvesting of the grapes in autumn usually takes place in several passes to ensure optimally ripe fruit. The Chardonnay and Weißburgunder grapes are already planted together as a mixed set in the vineyard. At the winery, all grapes are destemmed, meaning they are separated from their stems. The resulting mash from both grape varieties is gently pressed with a pneumatic press. Fermentation takes place at a temperature-controlled environment below 20° C in stainless steel tanks, which preserves the fruitiness as well as the varietal typicality. Ageing on the fine lees also occurs in steel tanks, resulting in fine, elegant, fresh wines. A small portion of Chardonnay is aged in barriques, which adds complexity to the cuvée.
