Le Tribute Gin from MG Destilerias – Citrus meets juniper

Le Tribute Gin from MG Destilerias is a citrus gin where kumquat, mandarin, and grapefruit set the tone, while juniper provides the dry backbone. On the label, it promises both in one breath – Fresh, yet dry enough.

Le Tribute Gin is a distilled gin from Spain, produced by MG Destilerias on a base of wheat and barley and bottled at 43% ABV in a 700 ml bottle. The oranges for its recipe grow in Valencia, and the lemons come from Seville.

A distilled gin full of bright citrus tones

On the nose, Le Tribute Gin begins with lemongrass and freshly grated citrus peel, only then does the juniper make itself heard – dry, clear, and patient.

On the palate, it remains smooth and bright: lime and orange maintain the freshness before a long, dry finish rounds off the picture. "Natural Citrics," the front label announces, and that is exactly how it tastes – like fruit that has only just left its peel. Juicy, fragrant, straightforward.

Its home turf is the Gin & Tonic

Its grand entrance is the Gin & Tonic, where the citrus notes do not have to come from the garnish – they are already present in the glass. This saves the bar half a bowl of fruit and saves the gin from being disguised.

A matching tonic water also comes from the same house – the distillery thinks of the Gin & Tonic from both sides of the glass. If you would like to compare how other houses bring fruit into gin, it is worth taking a look at the Mediterranean citrus gin from Lake Garda or the Grapefruit Gin from Windspiel. This provides your home bar with comparative material from two very different directions.

Every botanical group is distilled separately

MG Destilerias distills the botanicals of Le Tribute Gin in groups: each fruit group goes into the still individually, and the juniper gets its own run.

Only once everything has been distilled does the composition begin: the master blender combines the individual distillates into a cuvée – the marrying of the separate spirits – following the house's traditional recipe. This way, each group retains its own clearly contoured voice in the finished gin – from the juniper to the last peel.

Fluted glass, copper, and its own batch number

The slightly conical bottle made of blue-green fluted glass features an angular, copper-colored screw cap, a round copper seal, and a banderole-like paper label that provides a dedicated batch field for every bottling.

"Handcrafted" is written on this banderole, "Old but New" right next to it – two phrases that together capture the house's self-image in four words. A narrow column lists the botanicals of Le Tribute Gin one below the other like on an old pharmacy slip – including Lime, Lemon Peel, Kumquat, and Tangerine, all labeled in English and in capital letters. The copper seal bears the inscription "Le Tribute," and the blue-green color is reminiscent of shallow coastal water in the midday light.

A professional jury also found that this formula works in 2021: Gold with 90 points at the Bartender Spirits Awards. You can learn more about the distilling family, their history, and the place where all this is created in our MG Destilerias brand world.

MG Destilerias
