Blazin Hot BBQ Sauce with some real fire from Kansas City
Rufus Teague's Blazin Hot BBQ Sauce is a dark red, respectably spicy barbecue sauce packed with chipotle. Sweetness and heat are perfectly balanced. It's not just a chili bomb, but a BBQ sauce with depth, bottled in a flat whiskey flask.
Blazin Hot BBQ Sauce is Rufus Teague's fieriest barbecue sauce from Kansas City. Dark red, smoky, and properly spicy—yet balanced, as brown sweetness catches the fire. While the exact recipe remains the manufacturer's secret, we are happy to reveal a few ingredients: pureed raisins, orange juice, and a spoonful of anchovy paste, which gives the sauce its savory depth. Chipotle are smoked, ripe jalapeños—that’s why you always taste the heat together with smoke, never naked.
Chipotle smoke, brown sweetness, lingering burn
At first, you taste tomato and brown sweetness; then, the chipotle chili comes through, leaving a smoky, spicy burn on the tongue.
The heat is honest, not brutal—it builds up rather than ambushing you. Molasses and brown sugar provide a dark, almost malty base note, while orange juice and raisin paste add a fruity roundness. A hint of anchovy paste at the very end provides a savory spice that you won't identify as fish, but simply as depth.
This keeps the spicy sauce flavorful rather than just hot. The consistency is smooth and thick, coating the meat in a glossy film. A teaspoon is enough to add a kick, as the sauce is concentrated. If you like heat without losing sight of flavor, this is the right choice for you.
For pork neck steaks, burgers, and bratwurst
Blazin Hot goes well with everything hearty coming off the grill: grilled pork neck steak, juicy bratwurst, beef steak, chicken, and the classic burger.
A pork neck steak from the grill is its natural partner because the heat plays against the roasted aromas. On a burger, a dollop replaces spicy mayo; with bratwurst, it wakes up sleepy grill nights. A cold beer pairs well with its fire, as does a bold red wine. If you like it even hotter, add a chili sauce.
Brush it on the meat only during the last 5 minutes of grilling so the sugar caramelizes into a glossy crust—if applied too early, it will burn. It works just as well as a dip for fries and wedges as it does in a pulled pork sandwich or on grilled corn on the cob.
John McCone and the Father's Day grill
Rufus Teague is the BBQ brand from John McCone of Kansas City, founded in 2004—the name Teague comes from his mother, and "Rufus" just sounded cool.
It all started with a Father's Day grill. John experimented on his patio, bought a smoker, and soon began cooking for his coworkers until they encouraged him to enter BBQ competitions. Kansas City is considered the home of thick, sweet-and-smoky BBQ sauces, and Blazin Hot follows exactly that tradition—just with more fire.
For over 20 years, Rufus Teague has bottled his sauces in the flat 16-ounce whiskey flask—an allusion to the invented legend of the old BBQ master of the same name. All of the brand's sauces are gluten-free, kosher, and made without GMOs using natural ingredients, and they have won numerous awards. Over the years, the brand has taken home several prizes at American BBQ competitions.
We carry six of them: The entire Rufus Teague range spans from mild to fiery, and Blazin Hot is their spiciest child. Those who prefer it sweet and mild should reach for the Whiskey Maple. When grilling, it’s perfectly fine to let things get a little hot.
