Nimmervoll Gemischter Satz "quergelesen" – Tradition from Austria
The Nimmervoll Gemischter Satz 2023 winery is a white wine cuvée, harvested across the vineyard, as has long been tradition in Austria. It hides Frühroter Veltliner, Roter Veltliner and Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, all typical Austrian grape varieties, as well as Weißburgunder, Rivaner, Traminer. With 12% alcohol by volume, it is a light, lively white wine, with 6.1g/l acidity and 3.4g/l sweetness, it is crisp, fruit-driven and pleasantly dry. It pairs well with cold appetizers, summer salads or asparagus. The Nimmervoll Gemischter Satz stands for wine enjoyment from Austria, pure joie de vivre and enormous drinking pleasure.
Nimmervoll Winery – quergelesen
The grapes for the Nimmervoll Gemischter Satz grow in Lower Austria on pure loess soils and were harvested on October 2nd and 4th, 2023. After harvesting, gentle whole cluster pressing quickly followed, and then the must was fermented in a cooled stainless steel tank with cultured yeast. Matured in steel tanks on the lees, sur lie, an animating Nimmervoll Gemischter Satz is created with plenty of fruit and a hint of pepper on the finish.
Gregor Nimmervoll describes his Gemischter Satz wine as follows: "Pure joie de vivre. Different grape varieties, united in one barrel. The fusion of the best characteristics. Harvested across our vineyards. Animatingly fruity drinking pleasure for lively enjoyment."
Gemischter Satz – Slow Food Ark of Taste
The Gemischter Satz is an original wine production method that was threatened with extinction. In the past, a winemaker would plant different vines in his vineyard and harvest them together, then make a wine from them, a Gemischter Satz. Due to the different ripening stages of the grapes when harvested together, the Gemischter Satz also contains the different acidity levels and aromas of the grape varieties, which results in a complexity of taste.
Today, grapevines are planted as single varieties in rows within a vineyard. If different grape varieties are blended into one wine, the grapes are harvested, pressed, and fermented by variety, and only then does a cuvéeing, or blending, occur to create the final cuvée. Since 2009, the designation Gemischter Satz may only appear on the label of a wine from Austria. In 2008, Slow Food included the Gemischter Satz in the Slow Food Ark of Taste and awarded the product the Presidio seal.
