Weedenborn – Pinot Blanc from Calcareous Marl
The Weedenborn Pinot Blanc from Calcareous Marl 2021 is a dry, complex village wine from Westhofen. It shines bright gold with green facets and highlights. Roasted nuts, dried passion fruit, apricot, ripe apples, mango, raisins, and overripe banana dominate the nose, which is permeated by a fine yeast-brioche aroma. On the palate, the Pinot Blanc from calcareous marl is juicy, vinous, with various citrus aromas, fragrant hay, caramel, and a hint of dark chocolate. The finish of the Weedenborn Pinot Blanc from Calcareous Marl 2021 is mineral and profound.
Weedenborn – a village wine from Rheinhessen
Gesine Roll's village wines come from the best vineyards around the mountain community of Monzernheim, which is located on one of the highest elevations in Rheinhessen. The mineral Pinot Blanc village wine grows on calcareous marl soils around the town of Westhofen. This soil, with its high calcium content and good water retention capacity, gives the wine a unique character. The vines are over 30 years old. After manual harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed as whole clusters after a short maceration period. A portion of this Pinot Blanc is fermented and aged by winemaker Gesine Roll in large wooden barrels at her Weedenborn winery in Monzernheim, Rheinhessen.
