Weedenborn – Chardonnay Westhofen
The Weedenborn Chardonnay Westhofen 2021 shines bright gold with green facets in the glass. Juicy pears and ripe quince meet fragrant apricots, with a hint of smoky wood and unripe hazelnuts. On the palate, the white wine is juicy, with a lot of richness, again stone fruit meeting lychee, pineapple and herbs. The finish of the Chardonnay Westhofen is mineral and profound. Winemaker Gesine Roll aged this village wine in large wooden barrels at her Weedenborn winery in Monzernheim, Rheinhessen.
It is well known that Gesine Roll excels at Sauvignon Blanc, but her Chardonnays are also truly magnificent. The Chardonnay Westhofen is elegant, precise, cool. It is delicate and at the same time profound. The slight creaminess suits it well and the chalky minerality ends in a finely spiced finish.
Weedenborn – a village wine from Rheinhessen
Gesine Roll's village wines come from the best sites around the mountain community of Monzernheim, which is located on one of the highest elevations in Rheinhessen. The mineral Chardonnay village wine grows on calcareous marl soils around the village of Westhofen. A soil with a high lime content and good water retention capacity, which gives the wine a unique character. The vines are over 25 years old. The ripe Chardonnay grapes were separated from the stems and crushed. After 18 hours of maceration, they were gently pressed and fermented and aged in large wooden barrels. It remains on the full lees for a long time and is only released for sale after one year.
