Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken – Rausch Riesling Kabinett 2024
The Zilliken Rausch Riesling Kabinett 2024 is a sweet Riesling from the VDP. Große Lage Saarburger Rausch. The finely fruity, juicy and invigorating Saar Riesling from Weingut Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken, from the challenging 2024 vintage for Kabinett Rieslings, is characterized by a lively interplay between fruit and acidity. Delicate aromas of tropical and local fruits, white peach and ripe Williams pear meet grapefruit, mango and apricot, carried by an elegant layer of slate smoke. On the palate, it is juicy, with lively acidity and hints of discreet herbaceousness. But don't be fooled, the full power of the Rausch vineyard shows itself in the quiet fullness, deep minerality and persistent nature of this single-vineyard Riesling.
Zilliken Rausch Kabinett 2024 – A wine and its values
- 7.5 % Alcohol
- 56 g/l Residual sugar
- 9.4 g/l Acidity
With a moderate alcohol content of 7.5%, it is an ideal accompaniment to light dishes with chicken or fish, to sushi or scallops, or to spicy Asian cuisine. Although it is already delightful when young, it only reveals its full potential after 5-10 years of bottle aging. Try it out, we also have aged Rieslings from Weingut Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken in storage.
Incidentally, our cellar is cooled in summer and warmed in winter by a geothermal heat pump powered by a photovoltaic system, ensuring optimal wine maturation.
The Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken Rausch Riesling Kabinett 2011 was awarded 92 points by Gault Millau, and the 2017 vintage received 93 points, each being named the best Kabinett of the year!
2024 – The vintage in the Saar region
Long-lasting, abundant rain until April, which completely replenished the water reservoirs in the soil of the steep slopes of Saarburg, was actually an excellent start to the 2024 vintage. Sunshine and spring-like temperatures in April gave hope for a presumably good year. However, this hope was dashed by a severe frost on April 22nd and 23rd, which destroyed 90% of the already sprouting vines. Now, the hope was for a second budding. Winemaker Dorothee Zilliken nurtured the vineyards and the vines, and from October 7th onwards, she was able to harvest golden-yellow, healthy grapes, at least in the old plots of Saarburger Rausch. Although the quantity was small, she managed to produce a qualitatively sensory delightful 2024 vintage.
