Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken – Rausch Riesling Spätlese
The Zilliken Rausch Riesling Spätlese 2021 is a fruit-sweet, graceful Riesling from the VDP.GROSSE LAGE, the Saarburger Rausch vineyard. This delicately fruity, juicy and invigorating Saar Riesling from Weingut Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken is lithe and slender, full of minerality, with reserved fruit. It captivates with smoky slate in combination with vineyard peach, dried apricot, and candied tangerines. This year's Spätlese, in which no Auslese was bottled, once again displays a unique, impressive balance. On the palate, it is pleasantly sweet and juicy, incredibly dense, with abundant peach and exotic fruit aromas. An astonishing, minty freshness surprises in the long finish.

The long finish reveals the concentration of the Zilliken Riesling Spätlese and the potential this Spätlese will still conjure up on its long journey. With a moderate alcohol content of 7.5% and its dense aromatics, the Zilliken Rausch Riesling Spätlese is a good companion to aromatic, creamy dishes, such as blue cheese or braised venison dishes in rich sauces. Even if this wine already delights when young, it only shows its full potential after 7-12 years of bottle aging. Try it out, we also have aged Riesling Spätlesen from Weingut Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken in storage.
Incidentally, our cellar is cooled in summer and heated in winter by a geothermal heat pump, powered by a photovoltaic system, so that the wine can mature optimally.
2021 – the wine year on the Saar
Dorothee Zilliken fondly remembers the icy winter of the 2021 wine year, as it allowed nature to rest. In the cool spring, vegetation awakened only slowly. Fortunately, this meant that the frost at the beginning of April did not damage the vines, as they had not yet budded. The summer of 2021 was also rather cool, which involved a lot of work in creating an airy canopy. But this investment in the quality of the grapes paid off. After a beautiful late summer, the harvest began in good weather on October 11th and yielded healthy grapes, so that both Grosses Gewächse and noble sweet wines from great sites could be vinified. The 2021 Saar Rieslings from Weingut Forstmeister Gletz-Zilliken are elegant and classic with the highest degree of finesse and expressiveness.
