The Zilliken Rausch Riesling Kabinett 2020 is a fruit-sweet Riesling from the VDP.GROSSE LAGE, the Saarburger Rausch vineyard. This delicately fruity, juicy and invigorating Saar Riesling from Weingut Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken is characterized by a lively interplay between fruit and acidity. In addition to local fruits like apple, pear, and yellow peach, the Zilliken Rausch Riesling Kabinett entices with exotic abundance of juicy ripe pineapple, passion fruit, and candied orange, a fine slate spice, and herbal notes of mint and lemon thyme. The long finish reveals the wine's concentration. On the tongue, it feels weightless.

The Zilliken Rausch Riesling Kabinett 2011 was awarded 92 points by Gault Millau, and the 2017 vintage was named the best Kabinett of the year with 93 points!

2020 – the vintage year in the Saar

The winter of 2019/2020 brought sufficient rainfall to replenish the water reserves in the soil. In the sunny spring, the vines suffered neither from late frost nor hail damage. Good soil cultivation and greening, which promotes a lively humus layer, paid off in the hot summer. The soil provided the vines with enough moisture so that they could absorb nutrients and develop acidity. Thus, the harvest could start on September 21, 2020, earlier than ever before, and thanks to the experienced harvesting team, who are very familiar with the vineyards, ripe, healthy grapes could be brought in. After gentle pressing, the fermentation of the Riesling grapes in the old, well-maintained Fuder barrels proceeded without fault. The young 2020 vintage shows itself in the Gutswein (estate wine) segment as accessible and animating. The Ortsweine (village wines) are nuanced and clearly show their differences. Wines from the Große Lagen (Grand Cru vineyards) have excellent aging potential, are precise, elegant, and profound, and possess the typical lightness of the Saar.
