The word Azulejo comes from Arabic and means "polished little stone." The artfully painted Azulejo tiles can be seen everywhere in Portugal, on house walls, in subway stations, in museums. A nearly infinite variety of patterns and color combinations are known. It seems as if every Portuguese family has its own tile pattern.
