The production of natural soaps has a 300-year-old tradition in Portugal. Castelbel began in 1999 when Aquiles Barros, a respected professor of chemistry and former employee of the Ach Brito soap factory, decided to create something new and of his own. Initially, he produced private labels for luxury department stores, and since 2006, his own scented soap line, Ambiente, followed by the Portus Cale line in 2007.
