Portus Cale Gold & Blue Liquid Soap – Tradition and Craftsmanship from Portugal

The production of natural soaps has a 300-year-old tradition in Portugal, which began at Castelbel in 1999 when Aquiles Barros, a respected professor of chemistry and former employee of the Ach Brito soap factory, decided to create something new and of his own.

Not far from the port city of Porto in northern Portugal lies the small village of Castêlo da Maia, which was not only the company's headquarters but also its namesake: Castelbel – beautiful castle.

Initially, Castelbel produced private labels for a New York department store, and later for Galleries Lafayette in Paris. The name Castelbel remained hidden. Since 2006, the Castelbel Ambiente series (Lavender, Rose, Verbena) has been available, and its success story began. A significant contribution to this has been made by the wonderful room fragrances in magnificent glass diffusers, which are exported from Portugal all over the world.

A year later, the exclusive Portus Cale series followed, which with its unique Portuguese product design has found its admirers not only here but also in Dubai, South Africa, and Japan, and delights museum visitors in the washrooms of the Louvre in Paris.
