Orange blossom honey from Spain – floral, fruity, sunny

The Orange Blossom Honey (Miel de Fleur d'Oranger) by Beauharnais Carlant is an amber-colored varietal honey from the orange groves of Southern Spain. Mild, floral, slightly caramelly, with a subtle citrus sweetness. Unpasteurized, bottled by the delicatessen Carlant in Strasbourg.

Orange blossom honey (Miel de Fleur d'Oranger) by Beauharnais Carlant is a light, amber-colored varietal honey obtained from the nectar of white orange blossoms – in the vast groves of Southern Spain, primarily around Valencia and Andalusia. When the orange trees are in full bloom in April and May, bees spend 4 to 6 weeks collecting the sweet-scented nectar that gives the honey its characteristic aroma. 250 g in a jar, unpasteurized.

A honey like a long spring morning in the south. Those who spoon it onto their breakfast toast will taste the orange before it even ripens on the tree – not as a fruit note, but as a delicate floral fragrance with fine sweetness.

Amber-colored, mild and finely fruity

The orange blossom honey appears light golden to amber in the jar, with a texture that shifts between liquid and creamy depending on storage – both are signs of its untreated purity.

The fragrance immediately evokes memories of a blooming orange grove – floral, fruity, sunny, with a subtle citrus freshness that comes not from the fruit itself, but from a natural aromatic compound in the blossoms. On the tongue, it reveals a refined, slightly caramelly sweetness, with a delicate finish. A rather light honey that lingers on the palate without becoming overpowering.

On breakfast toast, in herbal tea, for poultry glaze

Its mild versatility makes orange blossom honey a reliable all-rounder – whether on bread, in tea, or in warm dishes.

Classically, it belongs on a slice of sourdough bread with salted butter, or drizzled over a bowl of Greek yogurt with fresh berries. It unfolds its floral aroma beautifully in a cup of Earl Grey or verbena tea. For poultry, it works as a glaze: 1 tablespoon of honey, a bit of lime juice, 5 ml of olive oil, a piece of fresh ginger – rub the chicken with this mixture, let it sit for 30 minutes, and roast until crispy in the oven at 180 degrees.

A teaspoon over freshly sliced orange segments with mint and a pinch of fleur de sel, and the fruity-floral sweetness meets salty freshness – a winter dessert that tastes like summer.

From the orange groves of Southern Spain, bottled in Strasbourg

Orange blossoms are among the most sought-after sources for beekeepers worldwide – their nectar is available for only a short time, the trees bloom for only 4 to 6 weeks in the spring, and the aroma of the blossom is so distinct that it can be recognized in every jar.

Behind Beauharnais is the delicatessen Carlant from Strasbourg, founded about 25 years ago on Rue de Wasselonne. Beauharnais is not a beekeeper itself – as Carlant emphasizes, the house carefully selects the honey from the harvest regions of their varietal partners and bottles it in 250 g jars in their own facility.

The Spanish orange blossom honey comes directly from beekeepers in Valencia and Andalusia, is processed untreated – meaning unheated and unfiltered – and thus preserves its light, floral aroma. Impressive.

Five minutes in a water bath at forty degrees

Spoonable at room temperature (12 to 18 degrees), stored in a dark and cool place – that is how orange blossom honey stays aromatic for a long time. If it crystallizes later, that is a sign of quality: place the closed jar in warm water at around 40 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes, stir briefly, and it will become fluid again. Together with the herbal Provence blossom honey and the aromatic Lavendelhonig IGP from the same house, three small spoonfuls turn into a short European journey at the kitchen table.
