Minimax Starter Kit is the complete solution for getting started with the Big Green Egg Minimax: grill, carrier, convEGGtor, 4.5 kg of charcoal, fire starters, and an ash tool in one package. No individual component setup. No trial assortments. No accessories for other EGG sizes.

Minimax Starter Kit is the official entry-level bundle from Big Green Egg for the Minimax kamado with a Ø 33 cm cooking grate. At its core is the Minimax itself – 35 kg of dense cordierite ceramic in a housing height of 50 cm. Included around it: a carrier with two steel handles, the classic convEGGtor for indirect grilling, 4.5 kg of Big Green Egg charcoal, a fire starter, and an ash tool. With this package, you can perform the initial burn-off right after delivery and grill that same evening – without ordering separate accessories.

What's in the delivery

Six components, all in the ratio that a specialist Big Green Egg dealer would assemble. The Minimax provides the cooking chamber made of Japanese-inspired cordierite ceramic with 856 cm² of grilling surface. The carrier is the transport aid with two wraparound steel handles, which also serves as a stable base for a table, bench, or outdoor kitchen. The convEGGtor is the well-known one-piece heat deflector for indirect cooking – the new Dual Zone Deflector Kit is not available for the Minimax. The charcoal made from FSC-certified wood is enough for around five to seven sessions; fire starters and ash tool complete the set for the first few weeks. Anyone wanting a pizza stone, wireless thermometer, or charcoal basket should order them separately – this package is deliberately reduced to the essentials.

33-centimeter cooking grate, six people at the table

The Minimax is only seven centimeters taller than the Mini, but has the same cooking grate diameter as a Small – 33 cm. On this surface, you can cook up to six portions of steak, a whole chicken, or four ears of corn simultaneously. With the included convEGGtor, you can turn it into an indirect cooker for pulled pork, brisket, or bread in seconds. Typical Big Green Egg temperatures – from 80°C for cold smoking to 350°C for pizza – can be precisely controlled via the air intake and the dual-function metal top (daisy wheel).

From experience: Let the Minimax run for two hours at 200°C during the first burn-off before putting food on it for the first time. This burns off residues from production and sets the ceramic. One limitation remains: The Minimax is too small for pulled pork portions for twenty guests – in that size, the Large or XLarge version is the right choice. Even two thermal zones at the same time, as with the Large using the Dual Zone Deflector Kit, cannot be clearly defined on the Minimax.

Big Green Egg was founded in Atlanta in 1974 and has been producing kamado grills made of dense cordierite ceramic ever since. The Minimax is the newest addition to the family below the Mini. It was designed for city apartments, campers, boats, and tabletop grilling sessions – wherever the space requirements of a Large don't fit, but the full Big Green Egg functionality is desired. You can even transport the Minimax in the trunk using the carrier: 35 kg is distributed over the two steel handles and is comfortable to carry as a pair.

For city apartments, balconies, and your first Egg

This package is the right choice if you are working with a kamado for the first time and don't want to juggle between three online shops to get the basic equipment together. It makes a great gift for amateur cooks with a small outdoor area or for campers who don't want to be without their own Egg while on the road. If you have the space and the budget for a Large, you should opt for the bigger version – the Minimax is deliberately a compact, no-compromise entry point, not a replacement for a fully equipped outdoor setup.
