The production of natural soaps has a 300-year-old tradition in Portugal. Castelbel began in 1999 when Aquiles Barros, a respected professor of chemistry and former employee of the Ach Brito soap factory, decided to create something new and his own. Initially, he produced private labels for upscale department stores, then in 2006, his own scented soap line Ambiente, and since 2007, the Portus Cale line.
