Drappier – Brut Nature Rosé – Champagne

The Drappier Brut Nature Rosé is a Champagne bottled without the addition of dosage, a fine rosé Champagne made from 100% Pinot Noir from the Drappier estate in Urville, Champagne.

The Drappier Brut Nature Rosé is a wonderfully dry Champagne that fully unfolds even after extended aging; unadorned, it reveals its grape variety and terroir in the most excellent way. Intense pink in color with a coppery shimmer, this lively, finely pearled Champagne is very pure with crisp, ripe fruit and notes of rose petals, red fruits, tropical fruits, mandarin, and white pepper: you will discover a new side of Champagne Rosé. The Drappier Brut Nature plays its mineral card and showcases its limestone-rich soils. At the same time, it is enormously fresh and light-footed with incredible length.

This is what Michel Drappier says about the Brut Nature: "This Rosé de Saignée embodies eight generations of Drappier family heritage caring for our historic grape variety, Pinot Noir. The Champagne offers vibrant pink nuances and the aromatic fruity profile following a gentle maceration."

Champagne Drappier – plenty of Pinot Noir, little sulfur

The Drappier family has lived and worked in the south of the Champagne region, in the Côte des Bar, since 1808 – on a good 100 hectares of this special terroir, which is characterized by a cool climate, chalky soils streaked with Kimmeridgian marl, and optimal slope orientations (south-southeast).

After harvesting the grapes, Champagne Drappier takes great care to produce the most elegant and aromatic wines as naturally as possible. Once at the winery, the grapes are gently pressed using mechanical low-pressure presses. Only the cuvée, the first part of the pressing, is used for the Champagne. The grape must is handled with great care to avoid oxidation and processed without pumps, using only gravity. The base wine is fermented with natural yeasts and aged in stainless steel tanks, with a small portion maturing for a year in French oak barrels. To add complexity to the Champagne, a portion of the Drappier Brut Nature comes from reserve wines of older vintages—a special technique that has a significant tradition in Champagne. The cuvée has naturally undergone malolactic fermentation, meaning the malic acid in the wine has turned into milder lactic acid, which provides a special mouthfeel with a slightly creamy structure and adds further layers to the Champagne cuvée.

To carry out one of the most important steps in creating a good Champagne—blending (assemblage), or the combining of different base wines for the second fermentation—three generations of the Drappier family come together to contribute their taste and lived experience: grandfather André Nicolas, father Michel, as well as grandchildren Charline, who heads sales and marketing, Hugo, who currently works as the cellar master at Drappier, and Antoine Drappier, who is managing the vineyards once again with the help of horses.

Naturally, the Drappier Brut Nature undergoes the second fermentation via the traditional bottle fermentation method: the *méthode champenoise*. After three years of aging in the bottle, the Drappier Champagne Brut Nature is released to the market. The Champagne is neither filtered nor colored. And Michel Drappier is known for using only as much sulfur as necessary (less than 35mg/l).

Champagne Drappier
