Due Palme Canonico – Red wine made from Negroamaro

The Cantine Due Palme Canonico 2022 is a velvety, fruity red wine made from the Negroamaro grape variety. On the nose, this deep ruby-red wine with violet reflections displays intensely fruity notes of dark forest berries, blackberries, and cherries, joined by dark chocolate and fine roasted aromas from the wood. Its medium body is soft and warm, full and spicy. An uncomplicated red wine from southern Italy with great drinkability, which can also be served chilled in the summer and goes just as well with grilled dishes as it does with pizza, pasta, or salami and ham.

Due Palme Canonico – the Negroamaro Salento Rosso IGP

Negroamaro is an ancient indigenous grape variety from Apulia. Its origins are unclear; it was likely brought over by the Greeks across the Ionian Sea. The origin of the word "Negroamaro" is derived from the dialect expression "niuru maru" (black and bitter), due to the dark color of the berries and the grape variety's distinct tannin structure. The Negroamaro for the Canonico grows on trellises; it was harvested in the second half of September and initially macerated in special stainless steel horizontal rotary tanks, where the grapes release their color and aromatic compounds into the must particularly well. The wine then matures for four months in French oak barrels.

This red wine, Negroamaro Salento Rosso IGP, owes its name to a district of the town of Cellino San Marco, where the vines of Angelo Maci's grandfather once stood.
