Organic Orange Soda by Galvanina, the Aranciata with lots of fruit

The organic orange soda from Galvanina is the Italian Aranciata, made from the juice of organic Sicilian oranges and bottled in Rimini. With 20 percent orange juice, it has the highest fruit content in the entire company range and consequently tastes like fruit rather than soda.

Organic Orange Soda is the Aranciata from Galvanina in Rimini, made with 20 percent juice from Sicilian oranges and citrus pulp from certified organic cultivation. The blonde oranges of the island are used, not the dark blood oranges, which is why it remains light and mild. The embossed glass bottle holds 355 milliliters.

It sits in the glass a warm orange and slightly cloudy, with fine flakes of fruit pulp that settle slowly. The first sip is mild and juicy, almost like diluted sparkling orange juice, followed by a slight citrus bitterness from the peel. It is certainly sweet, but it is not sticky and leaves the mouth feeling fresh.

Bionda is the name for the blonde orange of Sicily

Sicily knows two major orange families, the dark blood oranges of the Mount Etna area and the light varieties, which the island calls bionda, or blonde. This distinction is not a nuance for botanists, but can be clearly tasted in the glass.

For this Aranciata, the blonde ones are used because they taste milder and more floral and bring fewer berry notes than their red sisters. The fruit pulp remains in the bottle and gives the soda body, so that it does not appear watery in the glass. It is therefore worth giving it a short swirl before pouring so that the suspended particles are redistributed.

As an aperitivo topped with Prosecco

In Italy, Aranciata is a drink for the whole day, at the lunch table just as much as late in the afternoon before a meal. Well chilled at six to eight degrees, the fruit comes through most clearly.

Topped with Prosecco, it becomes a light aperitivo in seconds, as suggested by the supplier themselves, or a summery long drink with gin and ice. Without alcohol, it goes well with everything baked on a tray, with pizza, with focaccia, or with a slice of bread with sun-dried tomato spread. For children at the table, it is in any case the friendlier choice compared to dark cola drinks.

Why the fruit content makes the difference

Twenty percent orange juice is a lot for a soda, as numerous soft drinks on the shelf make do with a fraction of that and get the rest through flavoring and sugar.

You can taste it immediately because the sweetness then does not have to come solely from cane sugar, but to a good extent from the fruit itself. The warm color is also created this way, without any assistance.

Because the fruit pulp goes into the bottle, the soda remains closer to fresh-pressed orange than any clear drink made from concentrate. In the end, this is exactly the reason why Aranciata has held its own against the big brands in Italy for decades.
