La Gondola and the art of José Gourmet

The mousses come from the La Gondola cannery, one of the oldest fish canning factories in Portugal, established by Italian founders in the 1930s and family-run for over 80 years.

La Gondola uses the pre-cooked method: the fresh Atlantic fish is first steamed and then processed into a fine pâté with olive oil, tomato, and spices. This is what makes the pâtés so tender and rounded in flavor. Few, honest ingredients, nothing superfluous – that’s how you taste the quality of the origin in every spoonful.

On the outside, José Gourmet turns the set into a small work of art. What Luís Mendonça started in 2008 involves packaging Portugal’s fish in artistic cartons designed by around 90 illustrators – the motifs for this set were created by Monica Correia.
