Perla Lugana PDO – 2025

Perla del Garda – PERLA Lugana DOP

The Perla del Garda Perla Lugana DOP 2025 is an uncomplicated, stimulating white wine from Lake Garda, characterized by its fragrant fruitiness and lightness. In the nose, this white wine, made from 100% Turbiana grapes, reveals notes of juicy peach, exotic pineapple, and yellow banana. The Lugana Perla is soft and well-balanced, with a drinkability-enhancing acidity and a lovely freshness. Served well-chilled, it is a stimulating aperitif that pairs just as well with salmon canapés as it does with pasta in a cream sauce or a crisp salad with crunchy chicken.

The Perla del Garda Lugana PERLA was awarded 90 points by the Falstaff – Lugana and Custoza Trophy 2021.

Here is what winemaker Giovanna Prandini says about her wine: "One hundred percent Turbiana; its soft and fruity character perfectly balances its beautiful acidity. It is recommended not only as an aperitif, but the Perla also pairs well with baked fish and light meats."

Perla del Garda – Vinification

In Lonato del Garda, on the southern shore of Lake Garda, the twenty-year-old vines grow in the hilly San Carlo, San Zeno, and Casalin vineyards on calcareous soils of morainic origin. This organic Lugana wine from the Azienda Perla del Garda is produced at an altitude of 150-250 meters above sea level. Using the Guyot training system, 5,000 vines per hectare are planted close together, as the Turbiana grape variety has vigorous growth and quickly produces quantity over quality if not kept in check. Winemaker Giovanna Prandini keeps them under control; planted densely, they must compete for water and nutrients, and consistent yield reduction on the vine is also practiced. Harvesting takes place early, from August to early September.

Harvested by hand in small crates, the grapes are manually selected again at the winery, which is situated amidst the vineyards, before being placed in a cold storage room to protect them from oxidative stress and preserve the fruit. After gentle whole-cluster pressing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at approximately 15 degrees Celsius for 8-10 days. The maturation of the Perla Lugana DOP also takes place in stainless steel tanks.

Lugana DOP – White wine from Lake Garda

Since 1967, Lugana wine has carried the DOP or DOC (Denominazione di origine controllata) classification as a controlled designation of origin. The grapes also known as Verdicchio Bianco – Turbiana and Trebbiano di Lugana – grow on the approximately 700 hectares of vineyard area covered by the DOC region on the southern shore of Lake Garda. They produce a straw-yellow to greenish white wine, which owes its freshness to the microclimate shaped by the large lake, with its mild temperatures and fresh breezes.
