Kühling Gillot – Nackenheim Riesling – [ORGANIC]
The Kühling Gillot Nackenheim Riesling 2022 is an organic wine from the VDP.ERSTE LAGE Nackenheim in Rheinhessen. The vines for the Nackenheim Riesling from the Kühling-Gillot estate grow on the legendary Rothenberg. The red slate gives the Riesling its minerality. This makes the Nackenheim village wine accessible at an early stage. It seduces with ripe yellow fruit, lively acidity, and a slender body.
Kühling Gillot – Nackenheim Riesling
In Nackenheim, the powerful clay-slate strata of the "Roter Hang" (Red Slope) pushes to the surface before disappearing underground a few kilometers further south near Nierstein. The winery now owns plots in all the exciting sites of the Roter Hang, and after extensive new plantings, the vines in Nackenheim in particular have reached the right age for a great wine. The Kühling Gillot Nackenheim Riesling is the prototype of a crystal-clear Riesling from red slate.
Due to the less pronounced southern exposure compared to the Nierstein sites, the Nackenheim plots produce a Riesling whose fruit is somewhat more reserved, but whose stony spiciness is more pronounced. As a result, the tobacco notes enter into a wonderful interplay with a lively acidity and a body that is not overly opulent. The barren subsoil strips the Riesling of its playfulness and makes it appear austere, clear, and very sublime. Long aging on the lees and maturation in large, old "Stück" barrels give the Riesling a wonderful richness and elegant creaminess. Thus, fine aromas of yellow fruits join the notes of summer herbs and smoky spice.
The VDP classifies the sites of its members and divides the best into "Große Lagen" (Grand Crus) and "Erste Lagen" (Premier Crus). Therefore, the Nackenheim Riesling 2022 will carry the VDP.AUS ERSTEN LAGEN classification, as only grapes from classified Erste and Große Lagen go into this wine.
