Monterosa Macanilha – Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The Monterosa Macanilha Olive Oil 500ml is a monocultivar olive oil from the Algarve, made from only one olive variety: the Macanilha olive. This native variety grows predominantly in the region between Moncarapacho and Tavira and is locally also known as Maçanilha Algarvia or Macanilha de Tavira. Its extra virgin olive oil is medium-fruity and has a wonderful herbaceous aroma.

A single-varietal, top-awarded olive oil from southern Portugal, harmonious, with a particularly herbaceous note. The Feinschmecker magazine's verdict on the herb-intensive Maçanilha oil at the Olivo Award 2016 was as follows: "Thyme, parsley, mint, basil, lush green, almost unripe apples, lamb's lettuce, avocado, plus a very delicate chicory bitterness and a good measure of spiciness. Wonderful with a chickpea salad with grilled octopus or burrata, grilled bell peppers, and tuna ventresca (belly meat)."

Monterosa is a family-run artisan business in the eastern Algarve. Only about 7km from the cooling sea, a fresh breeze always blows here. Since 2000, olive trees have been growing on 20 hectares with the goal of producing a particularly high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

Five different olive varieties grow at Monterosa: Verdeal, Maçanilha, Picual, Cobrançosa, and Frantoio. However, olive trees have been cultivated and cared for in this special place for 2000 years, as a Roman trade route connecting Lisbon with Corduba passed through Moncarapacho. The in-house stone mill, however, is state-of-the-art. Without long transport routes, the hand-picked olives can be processed directly on the plantation into the finest olive oil.
