White ceramic bottle with rainbow-striped lobster

Extra virgin olive oil made from 100% Peranzana olives in a white ceramic jug featuring a printed lobster. Intensely fruity, golden yellow, with a clear note of tomato – at Frantoio Muraglia, motif and content mean the same thing.

The ceramic bottle with the colorful lobster is part of the Pop Art series by Frantoio Muraglia, in which sea creatures populate the white jugs. It contains 500 ml of extra virgin olive oil made from the Peranzana olive, topped with a cork and string, and a drawing of a lobster with raised claws printed on the front.

This time, the rainbow is in the lobster

The colored bands that usually run around the striped bottle are here located within the animal: green and yellow in the claws, orange and red in the body, blue and violet reaching into the tail fans.

That is the trick of the entire series. Instead of replacing the house's signature mark, it migrates into the figure, and the white background leaves it space. The family calls these jugs Arte che si versa – art that you pour.

The series has a distinct tone: matte colors on white ceramic, with squids, lobsters, and fish that seem to scurry across the jug. The lobster is drawn from the front, symmetrical, outlined with a black quill – not a coat of arms, but rather a friendly companion raising its claws.

On a set table, it reliably draws attention, and once empty, it remains as a pitcher for vinegar or as a vase. The fact that a lobster sits on an oil bottle in particular has a reason: in the ports of Puglia, what is caught is served that same evening, and it is topped with oil – not as an accessory, but as the final touch.

Peranzana, intensely fruity and golden yellow

The jug contains 100% Peranzana, golden yellow with green reflections, with a clear note of ripe tomato, along with arugula, radish, and a touch of artichoke.

Unlike the striped bottle, this oil is bottled at the intensely fruity level. The fruit is more pronounced, the herbal side comes through more strongly, and a fine peppery tickle remains at the back of the throat. The Peranzana does not become bitter, however – that is not its nature.

It thus carries more than just a subtle oil: grilled prawns, squid with charred edges, a whole fish from the oven with lemon and coarse salt. It hardly needs anything more over spaghetti al seppia with garlic and peperoncino. For those who prefer something quieter, choose the striped ceramic bottle.

Pottered in Puglia, the motif printed on

The jugs are created in small workshops in Puglia, turned and fired by artisans with whom the Muraglia family has worked for years. The motif is then applied as a print to the finished glaze.

The lobster therefore looks the same on every bottle, but the jug underneath does not: the wall thickness and shape reveal that someone sat at the potter's wheel here. Only the striped bottle and the polka-dot version are hand-painted in this collection. The clay itself serves the sober purpose of blocking out light, as light turns fresh oil tired in just a few months.

Once the jug is empty, rinse it with warm water, dry it well, and refill it. It is best kept in a dark, cool place—just not the refrigerator—and the oil inside should be used within a year.

It is pressed in their own mill in Andria, where the family farms 40 hectares without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. No more than 24 hours pass between harvest and the granite stone.
