Questions about Blueberry Salt – Metal Tin?

We are happy to help you with Nordur Salt.

Blueberry Salt, Iceland's fruity surprise

The Blueberry Salt from Nordur Salt combines crunchy sea salt flakes from the Breiðafjörður with hand-picked Icelandic blueberries – fruity and tart, violet-red in color, and packaged in a metal tin featuring a mermaid. Perfect for game, cheese, and desserts.

The Blueberry Salt from Nordur Salt is the most unusual member of this Icelandic tin family: crunchy, geothermally harvested sea salt flakes meet blueberries picked by hand in the endless expanses of the island – the result is a salt with a fruity, tart note and a color ranging from violet to dark red that immediately tells a story on the plate.

First salty, then fruity, always surprising

On the palate, you first get the clear saltiness of the flake, then the berry reveals itself: slightly sweet, slightly tart, with that wild note that distinguishes Iceland's blueberries from their tame relatives. No lab-created aroma, but real fruit in the salt – you can see it in the dark flecks.

As always, the base comes from the Breiðafjörður: clean seawater, boiled on the small island of Karlsey off Reykhólar using pure geothermal energy, following the ancient Icelandic technique from 1753. Only this mild, crunchy flake provides the right stage for the berry.

Incidentally, it is boiled at about 70 degrees – gently enough that the flakes remain paper-thin and the berry pieces retain their color. You can recognize high-quality production here with the naked eye: not a gray mass, but bright flakes with dark, clearly defined berry flecks.

For game, cheese, and dark chocolate

The Blueberry Salt is a born companion for everything autumnal: over medium-rare wild duck, on venison or lamb fillet, the fruit bridges the gap to the dark sauce. On a cheese board, it reliably provides a conversation starter alongside aged mountain cheese or blue cheese.

And then the sweet side: a pinch over dark chocolate, on vanilla ice cream, panna cotta, or cheesecake – salty meets berry meets sweetness, and the dessert gets a round of applause. It is particularly good in a salad with goat cheese and walnuts, where it serves as both dressing and decoration. The pure classic counterpart is the Sea Salt Flakes metal tin.

A small trick for a big effect: sprinkle the salt just before serving so that the color and crunch remain lively – the berries react to moisture faster than the salt. Sprinkle late, marvel long, eat every last bite: that is the simple blueberry formula that works on every set table and for every guest without further instructions.

From the saltworks in Breiðafjörður

Nordur Salt was founded in 2012 by two friends – Icelander Garðar Stefánsson and Dane Søren Rosenkilde, who met in Aarhus and decided to produce the best salt. The energy is supplied by the earth itself, and Nordur Salt received the Red Dot Award in 2014 for its packaging design.

The small metal tin with the mermaid keeps the fragile flakes dry and intact – and after the last crumb is gone, it is useful for storing all kinds of treasures. A salt like a souvenir from vacation, only without having to pack a suitcase.

You can find more flavored varieties among the Herbal & Spice Salts, and the entire island family at Nordur Salt. Iceland in violet – bold, fruity, and unforgettable from the first sprinkle. If you love berries, you’ve found your salt!
