Vinfabriken Äppelglögg – White Apple Mulled Wine
Vinfabriken Äppelglögg from Sweden is a white apple mulled wine made from cider. Äppelglögg has a fruity taste with a distinct character of red apples, spiced with cinnamon and a subtle hint of orange and vanilla. This apple mulled wine should be served hot during the winter season – in the summer, it becomes a cool treat with a few ice cubes.
The word "glögg" is the shortened form of "glödgat vin" and essentially means nothing other than mulled wine. Glögg is sometimes also referred to as Swedish punch or Swedish mulled wine. It is usually made from red lingonberry wine, but when made from cider, Äppelglögg is a fruity alternative to white mulled wine made from grapes.
Vinfabriken Äppelglögg – Swedish tradition
Traditionally, glögg is drunk in Sweden during the Advent season and especially on St. Lucia's Day. It is served with lussekatter (sweet saffron yeast buns) and gingerbread. During the pre-Christmas season, glögg (even non-alcoholic versions) is offered all over Sweden at any time of day. Enjoy it steaming hot in good company, and the cold won't stand a chance – at least for a while.
According to Swedish tradition, Vinfabriken Äppelglögg belongs in a mug with a spoon in it. Cover the bottom of the mug with chopped almonds and raisins and fill it with the gently warmed cider-based glögg.
Mulled wine with 11% ABV.
