Vinfabriken – Småland Glögg from Sweden
Vinfabriken Småland Glögg is a mulled wine based on lingonberry and apple wine, hailing from the southern Swedish province of Småland. Wild lingonberries grown there give the glögg its aromatic, full-bodied character. Cinnamon, cloves, and coriander provide its balanced spice.
The word glögg is a shortened form of "glödgat vin" and basically means nothing more than mulled wine. Glögg is sometimes also referred to as Swedish punch or simply Swedish mulled wine.
Glögg – A Swedish tradition
In Sweden, glögg is traditionally drunk during the Advent season, especially on St. Lucia's Day. It is accompanied by lussekatter (sweet saffron yeast buns) and gingerbread. During the pre-Christmas season, non-alcoholic glögg is offered everywhere in Sweden at all times of the day. Enjoy it steaming hot in good company, and the cold won't stand a chance—at least for a while.
A mug with a spoon is the traditional Swedish vessel for Småland glögg. Cover the bottom of the mug with chopped almonds and raisins and fill it with the gently warmed glögg.
