The Wachter Wiesler Béla-Jóska 2019 is an organic red wine made from Blaufränkisch grapes from the Eisenberg DAC in Austria. This bone-dry, fully fermented red wine is a tribute to its two namesakes, Christoph's grandfathers Béla Wachter and Jóska Wiesler. It is the calling card of Weingut Wachter Wiesler and, like an archetype for the unique style of the region and the winery itself, it showcases the archetypal taste of its region. Rooted in its homeland like Béla and Jóska, the wine is a prime example of a terroir wine.

On the nose, the garnet-red Blaufränkisch exudes dark berry fruits, blackberries, blackcurrants, elderberries, and tart blueberries, meeting a piquant herbal spice, with some earthy minerality and tobacco adding to the profile. On the palate, this "bread and butter" wine is juicy, with a fine tannin structure and lively acidity, and a salty finish. Classic in the most attractive sense, the Wachter Wiesler Béla-Jóska is an elegant, animating table wine for social gatherings.

Blaufränkisch – Winemaking

The Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt grapes, hand-picked from mid-September to mid-October 2018, come 65% from iron-rich loamy soils in Deutsch-Schützen and 35% from iron-rich green slate on Eisenberg in Burgenland. Christoph Wachter cultivates the vineyards of Weingut Wachter Wiesler organically and with a lot of manual labor and care. After harvesting, the grapes remain in wooden fermentation vats for 14-15 days at a maximum of 29°C, then are gently pressed and spontaneously fermented with malolactic fermentation partly in tanks, partly in wooden barrels. Matured for 18 months in traditional, large wooden barrels (600-3000l). Unfined and unfiltered, bottled in spring 2020.
